Ethylene glycol (EG) is widely used as antifreeze,lubricant,plasticizer,surfactant,and a precursor for manufacture of polyester fibers and resins.[1,2] Nowadays,ethylene oxidation is a universal industrial approach to produce EG.However,as crude oil resources shrinks,synthesis of EG from other approaches,such as the conversion of syngas through dimethyl oxalate (DMO) to EG,are attracting more and more interest.At present,many researchers have investigated methanol decomposition using plasma technology,but in these works methanol was mainly converted to hydrogen,carbon monoxide,carbon dioxide,formaldehyde,methane,ethylene,ethane etc,only trace amount of EG was found.[3]
