Percutaneous microwave ablation (PMWA)has been widely used to treat lung tumors.Microwave is a high-frequency electromagnetic wave.Intra-tissues rapidly release a high amount of heat, which can reach exceed 100 ℃in a few seconds, because tissues absorb massive amounts of microwave energy.Tumors instantaneously undergo necrosis via thermal coagulation because of high fever.Hence, microwaves have significant advantages in the treatment of lung tumors. The lungs exhibit low permittivity and conductivity; these factors allow microwave to penetrate the lungs deeper than those in the liver. The PMWA of lung cancer is a promising minimally invasive and effective treatment. However, the PMWA of lung cancer is a local treatment method; hence, PMWA should be combined with other comprehensive treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy to improve efficacy.
