Emergy and economic methods were employed to evaluate and compare 5 cultivation systems for rice(R),bitter gourd (BG),green pepper (GP),summer squash (SS) and tomato (T) production on reclaimed wetlands of the Pearl River Estuary,China.A series of indices,such as emergy yield ratio (EYR),environmental loading ratio (ELR),emergy exchange ratio (EER),emergy sustainability index (ESI),emergy Index of sustainable development (EISD),and economic yield/cost ratio (EYCR),were calculated and compared at system level.Moreover,the four cultivation systems were compared with typical traditional rice production system (TR) in the vicinity of this study area.
