Blueshifts in the near band edge (NBE) luminescence spectra of direct bandgap semiconductor nanostructures such as ZnO have been commonly observed in previous reports, which were usually attributed to quantum confinement effect [1],surface-related states [2] or Burstein-Moss (BM) band filling effect [3].Here,we have controllably fabricated a series of single crystalline,non-quantum-sized ZnO nanowires with similar geometries but remarkably different NBE peak positions in their room-temperature (RT) photoluminescence (PL) emission spectra.
