Hydrogen production by catalytic partial oxidation (CPOX) of logistic and alternative fuels in monolithic honeycomb catalysts proceeds via a complex coupling between catalytic and gas-phase reactions as well as mass and heat transfer. Therefore, a profound understanding of the reaction mechanism is crucial for designing a CPOX reformer and optimizing the operating conditions.In-situ sampling techniques [1], which yield axial concentration and temperature profiles in the catalytic channel, are a useful tool to deepen this understanding. The investigated fuel, ethanol, is available as an alternative fuel and a fuel additive and has shown promising results in CPOX [2, 3, 4].In this work, axial concentration and temperature profiles are examined for three channels located at different positions across the monolith.
