  Oil well drilling program is very complex and requires extra precaution to be taken in each step.Inaccurate optimization of drilling parameters may lead to serious consequences such as excessive cuttings bed formation,stuck bottom-hole assembly (BHA),loss circulation,kick,high equivalent circulating density (ECD) or well blow out.Therefore,the aspect that is important in drilling operation is the optimization of drilling parameters for efficient hole cleaning.This study examines the combined effect of mud weight (MW) from 9 to 11 ppg,cuttings size from 0.10 to 0.275-in,rate of penetration (ROP) from 30 to 80 ft/hr,and drillstring rotation speed from 0 to 120 rpm,on the efficiency of cuttings transport in a directional wellbore at inclination of 36 degrees from the vertical.The parameters were evaluated using a commercial software WellPlanTM.Field data from published literature were used to benchmark the simulation model.The results show that high MW,high RPM,low cuttings size and low ROP were required to decrease cuttings bed height in the wellbore.In addition,these parameters require the minimum flowrate to clean the well.The highest annular frictional pressure loss also occurred at 60 rpm,ROP = 30 ft/hr,and MW = 11 ppg.The study shows that this tool is suitable to optimize drilling parameters for efficient drilling operation.
