The fast urbanization progress in China in the late 20 years has brought more and more pressures on urban water system.Consequently, the conflict between rapid urban sprawl and the restoration of polluted water systems in such areas urgently needs to be addressed. This research built up a comprehensive integrated method (CIM) for urban water restoration ( UWR),which is named as UWR - CIM.The UWR - CIM is a cross temporal and spatial scale research. The spatial scale is based on an urban complex ecosystem while the temporal scale is built up above urban water system ecological restoration and stabilization. The UWR methodology takes up a more preferable technology combination both in temporal and spatial scales. This integration and combination demonstrated to have more systematic functions, and to fulfill more socio - economic and eco - environmental benefits with less cost. The UWR - CIM method is comprised of three components:1 ) basic ideology and theories of UWR -CIM; 2) methodological system of UWR- CIM; 3) a case study of UWR in the six lakes in Hanyang District of Wuhan City. With the UWR- CIM methodological system,a case study in the six lakes in Hanyang District of Wuhan City was implemented. After field surveys, the case study was practiced with a whole process, based on socio - economical forecast, and a comprehensive integration was used.Through the way of integration, the six lake area applied a series of water restoration applications, such as optimal allocation of land use, water restoration assessment and selection and a MIS system for UWR - CIM.These above studies and applications built up a solid foundation and proof for Hanyang district of Wuhan City in water ecological restoration. This success validates the whole research of UWR - CIM.
