A majority of concrete structures exposed to chloride environment are always subjected to cyclic dryingwetting actions.Coastal and marine structures in splash and tidal zones are a good example.For these cases,concrete is not fully saturated.The main mechanism for chloride penetrating in this partially saturated concrete is quite different from that of the diffusion process which occurs in fully saturated concrete.It has been shown that the transport of chlorides by capillary absorption of water makes greater contribution than by diffusion in the partially saturated concrete,since under this condition the diffusion is a quite slow process in comoarison with the capillary suction.
