To deal with a crowed visual/auditory scene,it is important that attention distributes over multiple objects efficiently.Recent behavioral studies, including those from our lab,by employing a time-resolved approach, demonstrate rhythmic fluctuations in attentional selection performances in both vision and audition(behavioral oscillations). These results suggest that temporal dimension plays a critical role in coordinating and orchestrating attention over multiple objects. However, the underlying neural mechanism remains largely unexplored. In a series of visual and auditory experiments,we employed EEG/MEG in combination with a temporal-response-function technique(TRF)to examine the temporal neural response for multiple objects in visual and auditory tasks. Our preliminary data shows interesting dynamic relationship in TRFs between attended and unattended objects, supporting an important function of temporal organization in the processing and selection of multiple objects in auditory/visual scenes.
