A series of polyimides derived from bis(ether anhydride)s and bis(ester anhydride)s with2,2-bis(trifluoromethyl)biphenyl-4,4-diamine(TFDB)were synthesized via solution polycondensation. The resulting polyimides had inherent viscosities0.41-1.06 dL/g and could be cast to tough films with glass transition temperatures(Tgs)of 224-320 oC.All of the films exhibited cut-off wavelengths shorter than 372 nm and were highly transparent except the film derived from bis(trimellitic acid anhydride)phenyl ester(TAHQ).It was found that the polyimide filmsderived from bis(ether anhydride)s showed higher thermal stability, better solubility and transparency, but lower Tg than the corresponding bis(ester anhydride)s-based polyimides due to the different ether and ester linkages.
