Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.) is cultivated widely from Hokkaido to Kyushu in Japan. The southwest region of Japan has an advantage that spears in this region emerge earlier than those in the others.Several diseases, especially stem blight are, however, serious problems in open field culture in warm regions, so that rain protected culture is necessary there.Every A.officinalis cultivar is sensitive to stem blight.
