  Liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry are enabling technologies for modern proteomics research and therefore,hyphenation of LC-MS has been the primary workinghorse in practical proteomic analysis.Compared to the relatively mature LC-ESI MS platform,coupling of LC to MALDI MS has been a technical bottleneck for a long while.Droplet technology can convert continuous flow to discontinuous flow,based on which large number of aqueous samples can be separately stored and manipulated.In this project,droplet microfluidics was introduced as a simple and effective approach to connecting capillary liquid chromatography with MALDI MS.With a simple microfluidic structure,HPLC eluent was fragmented into independent fractions with controllable volumes and matrix reagent was introduced at downstream before droplet fractions were loaded onto a MALDI target plate.With proteins as sample,the feasibility of such droplet-interfaced LC-MALDI MS hyphenation was demonstrated and due to the flexible nature of droplets,adjustability of LC-MS resolution was further explored.
