The Cretaceous geological records of India contain well-preserved signatures of environment and ecosystem of the past.In order to study the variations and evolution of Cretaceous terrestrial and marine environments in Southern India palaeontological studies were carried out on inter and infra trappean horizons of Deccan volcanism episode around Vikarabad,Rajahmundry and Kovvur areas. The Deccan Traps are generally considered to be Cretaceous to Eocene in age based on the fossil contents of inter and infra trappean sequence which are predominantly of non-marine origin.
