[Objective] The research aimed 1o grasp the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of extreme precipitation in Jiangsu Province.[Method] Threshold was determined by detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) based on the data of daily precipitation over Jiangsu Province from 1961 to 2010, and the oscilation period and mutation were detected by 1he method of Morlet wavelet et analysis and Mann-Kendall test respec tively.[Result] The annual frequency of edreme precipitation in Jiangsu Province demonstrated oscillation characteristics with 8-10 a, and the mutation mainly happened in 2006.In addition, the oscillation period of extreme precipitation during summer was 8-10 a, and its mutation happened in 1998.The oscillation periods of extreme precipitation, however, duringauturnnwere2-3and5 7a.Extrerne precipitation and total rainfall had better consistercy.They both presented the characteristics of more in the south and less in the north, and big-small-value zone was concentrated.[Conclusion] The research could provide technical support for making defense policy of the related disaster for relevantdepartments.
