Mechanism of compressive property reduction of quasi-isotropic composite laminated plates due to transverse impact is studied numerically and experimentally. The deformation profiles, damage progress and failure were observed during the compression test.A finite element analysis was conducted to know the mechanism of the complex compressive behavior of quasi-isotropic laminates with an impact damage, which consists of a spiral array of inter-connected transverse cracks and delaminations.
