Numerical analysis and optimization methods have long played a major role in aircraft design, both in industry and among academic researchers. One of the most common multidisciplinary instance is static aeroelastic optimization which involves strongly interacting between aerodynamics and structures. And there exist several different aeroelastic optimization architectures for dealing with this complexity. These architectures can be divided into two main classes:sequential approach and concurrent approach.Sequential approach is very common in engineering design department and early academic research in which the outer shape of the aircraft is optimized at an earlier stage of the design process, and the optimized shape is treated as a fixed design feature when optimizing the internal structure of the aircraft.Concurrent approach integrates shape optimization and structure optimization, which is optimizing aerodynamic shape and structure, into the same system level at the same time.
