  Self-healing antisepsis coatings,which autonomically repair and prevent corrosion of the underlying substrate,are of particular interest for the researchers.Especially,the cost of corrosion has been investigated to be hundreds of billion per year.The studies on self-healing polymers have demonstrated repair of bulk mechanical damage as well as dramatic increases in the fatigue life.Various approaches for achieving healing functionality have been demonstrated,including encapsulation,reversible chemistry,microvascular networks,nanoparticle phase separation,polyionomers,hollow fibred,and monomer phase separation.The majority of these systems,however,have serious chemical and mechanical limitations,preventing their use as coatings.Modem engineered coatings are highly optimized materials in which dramatic modifications of the coating chemistry are unlikely to be acceptable.Here,we explored one self-healing antisepsis coating approaches,starting from this epoxy resin-based materials system.The epoxy resin was eneapsulated and dispersed in the coating matrix.Encapsulation of the healing agent is advantageous in cases where the matrix can react with the healing agent.In the article,effectiveness of epoxy resin filled microeapsules was investigated for healing of cracks generated in paint/coatings.Microcapsules were prepared by in situ polymerization of urea-formaldehyde resin to form shell over epoxy resin droplets.Characteristics of these capsules were studied by FTIR,TGA/DSC,scanning electron microscope (SEM) and particle size analyzer.Our model system of self-healing antisepsis consists of an epoxy,resin matrix,10 wt%microencapsulated healing agent,2wt% catalyst solution.The percentages of each component are selected based on our prior experiments on self-bealing of bulk materials.The self-healing function of rids coating system is evaluated through corrosion testing of damaged and healed coated steel samples compared to control samples.Electrochemical testing provides farther evidence ofpassivation oftbe substrate by self-healing coatings.In a word,the cracks in an antisepsis coating were successfully healed when epoxy resin was released from microcapsules raptured under simulated mechanical action.EpoXY resin healed area was found to prevent corrosion of the substrate.
