似乎自然界中生命体运动的一个共有特征就是充分利用边界可作有限变形运动的流固耦合,诸如空中飞行的鸟类、水中游动的鱼类以及人体肺部呼吸、心脏输血、鼓膜振动,甚至排泄过程等等。从运动定量刻画而言,可作有限变形运动的边界一般为Euclid空间中的曲面且形状可随时间变化。弯曲的曲面自身具有丰富的几何特征,这些特性往往同发生于其上的力学过程"耦合"在一起。
