  [Objective]To investigate the contamination characteristics of tetracycline resistant (tetr) commensal bacteria in chicken and related products sampled in Shanghai.[Methods]Tetr bacteria were isolated in 42 samples,and total bacterial counts and resistance rates were analyzed.Then five tetracycline resistant genes included tet C,tet E,tet G,tet L and tet M,as well as integrase gene (int Ⅰ) were screened in 107 tetr bacteria isolated from feed,chicken,stomach,enteric canal and feces of a farm chicken sample by conventional PCR.[Results]Tetr bacteria were common in fresh chicken,and the prevalence of tetr bacteria was higher than 106 CFU/g in 86% samples.Then,the total bacterial counts and resistance rates of frozen samples were higher than those of cold storage samples,and those of chickens sampled from markets were higher than those from supermarkets.Moreover,total bacterial counts were significantly decreased to 103 CFU/g and all the tetr bacteria were mitigated by cooking.The prevalence of tetracycline resistance genes differed in different samples.The most common tet genes were tet L in feed,chicken and feces,and tet M in stomach and enteric canal,and the percentages were 76%,42.11%,33.33 %,100% and 89.49% respectively.Meanwhile,51.40% of the isolates harbored int Ⅰ gene.[Conclusion]A huge tet gene pool might be harbored in chicken and related products,so potential migration risk of resistance might happen through horizontal gene transfer.
