Picornaviruses,belong to the family Picornaviridae,are large positive-sense single stranded RNA viruses.A total of 37 species grouped into 17 genera have been identified in this virus family.Several members of the Picornaviridae family can cause infectious diseases via plants,animals,and humans,including heptatitis A,polio,and hand-foot-and–mouth disease.In particular,Enterovirus- 71(EV71) and Coxsackie virus A16 (CVA16),which belong to the Enterovirus genus within the Picornaviridade family,are the causative agents of a severe hand-foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in East Asia.We initiated a structural genomic study targeting on the emerging or re-emerging picornaviruses,including EV71,CVA16 and hepatitis A virus.
