  Pyrolysis oil,obtained through fast pyrolysis of biomass,is a promising renewable energy source.It has received widespread interest for the characteristics it shows when being used as combustion fuels in boiler,engines or gas turbines and as resources in chemical industries.However,due to its chemical composition,the pyrolysis oil has many unfavourable properties,such as being corrosive,viscose and thermally instable.Therefore,to be used as transportation fuels,bio-oil must be properly upgraded into high quality biofuel.In this research,various types of upgrading processes,including physical refining routes,chemical refining and total pyrolysis refined routes,shall be discussed in details.Finally,this research shall put forward the Physical-Chemical Refining(PCR),a new upgrading route,which is a very promising refining route of bio-oil.
