In this study,we developed a novel emulsion polymerization process to synthesize polymer particles with high-molecular weight using a water-in-oil(W/O)slug flow.A microchannel slug flow facilitates quick heating of the reaction media and prevention of the particle stacking on the tube wall by a thin oil layer1.Aqueous solution containing an initiator was used as a dispersed phase and a monomer solution was used as a continuous phase.These solutions were fed into a microreactor at adjustable flow rates and the W/O slug flow was formed at a T-union.Soap-free emulsion polymerization was then carried out in an oil bath(Figure 1).
