Cytochrome P450 (CYP) epoxygenases, such as those from the CYP2C and CYP2J subfamilies, catalyze oxidation of arachidonic acid to four regioisomeric epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (5,6-, 8,9-, 11,12-, and 14,15-EET).EETs induce vasodilation by activating vascular smooth muscle large-conductance, Ca2+-activated K+ channels, are anti-inflammatory in endothelial cells through inhibition of NF-kB, and preserve mitochondria in cardiomyocytes after cardiac ischemia and reperfusion (I/R).
