This paper provides an overview on the matter of steel bridge design and assessment,giving a particular emphasis on related implications on codes and provisions,in particular with Eurocode 3,illustrating the basic element of design and assessment,and giving some new insights on particular problems as load assumptions for steel bridges,choice of steel,design of bridge elements,stability rules,fatigue rules.The paper aims to focus on detailed problems which could influence the correct design or assessment of a new or existing bridge,with reference to code provisions.Steel bridges are an essential feature of a countrys infrastructure and landscape.
