Effect of K2O Addition on the Properties of SiC/Al2O3 Composite Porous Ceramics

  SiC/Al2O3 composite porous ceramics were fabricated with different K2O additions using graphite as the poreformer.The effects of K2O addition on the phase composition,porosity,and flexural strength of porous SiC ceramics were investigated.It was found that the K2O addition strongly inhibits the generation of cristobalite.The surface of SiC particles is oxidized to SiO2 at high temperature.SiC particles are bonded by the oxidation-derived SiO2.The pores are produced by stacking particles and burning out graphite.
