The castor plant, Ricinus communis L., is a versatile industrial oil crop that is cultivated worldwidely.Genetic improvement and marker-assisted breeding of castor has been slow because of a lack of abundant and efficient molecular markers.The present study characterised the distribution and frequency of microsatellites in the castor genome and developed numerous SSR markers using genomic data mining.
