由于运动与运动的叠加，各类运动结构中存在大量的陀螺系统。比如工程中的旋转部件、轴向运动结构，天体中旋转坐标系下的三体问题等。陀螺性质的存在给动力学的求解带来挑战，同时利用陀螺特性也能够为工程应用提供了广阔的设计空间，比如航空与航天中广泛应用的陀螺仪及陀螺敏感元件。
