This study aimed to investigate the adverse health effects of fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) from Shenyang. The concentration and composition of PM2.5 in traffic policemens working sites including fields and indoor offices were obtained.Blood samples of field and offices policemen were collected to detect DNA damage by Comet assay. And the logistic regression analysis of the factors affecting the DNA damage was carried out.Characteristics of samples collected during the winter and summer differ significantly. The percentage of comet cell in exposed group had no obvious difference with control group. After grading the damaged cells, the percentage of level 3 damaged comet cells was significantly higher than those in control group. But no significant correlation with age or length of service was found. Moreover, animal studies confirmed the oxidative DNA damage induced by ambient PM 2.5.
