Investigation on high-velocity impact and its shielding structures are of great importance to spacecraft due to existence of a large number of orbital debris.High-velocity impact, full of strong nonlinearities, poses great challenges on numerical simulation.Extremely large deformation will distort the mesh much if Lagrangian mesh-based methods are adopted.Initiation and propagation of cracks are also difficult to simulate with traditional finite element method(FEM).Numerous contacts during impact further complicate the simulation. The honeycomb sandwich structure is widely used in spacecraft, and cost-effective shielding structures can also be constructed based on honeycomb sandwich panel [1].Investigating the shielding performance of honeycomb sandwich structures for high-velocity impact still demands new numerical simulation techniques.
