In this article,the authors deal with the issue of the degree of grasping-understanding a sign language as a phenomena, which is a basic tool of communication during an education process.They handle the difficulties and requirements for education towards language awareness in the conditions of educating children and pupils with hearing impairment.Additionally, they deal with the position of sign and Czech languages in this process and their reflection in curricular documents.They characterize the relations of realizing the existence of a language towards other processes and activities, which should be content and methodology wise provided during school education.They present the results of research carried out by means of a technique, which they designed and implemented.
