Utilizing Band-edge Absorption of Quantum-dot Sensitized Solar Cells Through Hollow Au@oxide Core-sh

  Quantum-dot sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs) prove to be a competitive candidate in the solar energy industry with efficiency exceeding 6% lately,which is comparable to the performance of common dye sensitized solar cells.Recent studies reveal that localized surface plasmons (LSPs) would greatly raise the absorption spectrum of the sensitizer and thus result in a higher efficiency of the device.Other than previously reported Ag@TiO2 structure with a LSPs peak around 430nm,we fabricate a novel hollow metal@oxide structure,which red-shift the surface plasmon peak to more than 600nm and exhibits weak scattering behavior comparing to Au nanorod.As LSPs is mainly excited by longer wavelength light in this case,band-edge absorption light of the sensitizer can be further exploited.Moreover,this hollow Au@TiO2 structure performs well even in a thicker photoanode as longer wavelengths light can be hardly absorbed by the quantum-dot sensitizer.
