  Since the theoretical prediction in 2002 of using multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWNT) to create mechanical (me)illators with operating frequencies in the gigahertz range, there have been intensive theoretical and (ex)perimental studies on realization, complex dynamic phenomena, dissipation mechanisms, electric-mechanical coupling, multi-physical and biological behavior, and various extensions of the so-called van der Walls GHz oscillators as NEMS.In this lecture, we review the main progress in the above field, (ex)plain why van der Waals GHz oscillators have been still experimentally not realized, and report our latest alvances on the so-called 2nd generation of van der Waals oscillators as aNEMS with continuously tunable or vontrollable frequencies in the GHz range.
