Polymeric hydrogels are a kind of three-dimensional networks swollen with water, which have been found increasing engineering applications in biomimetic actuators, biomedical devices and drug delivery system due to its large deformability and responsiveness too many kinds of stimuli. It is of great importance to develop highly efficient and robust finite element(FE)algorithm to model the deformation and swelling in hydrogel-related system which couples finite deformation and fluid permeation. In this work,we present our recent progress in modeling the steady and transient behaviors of hydrogels using the FE method.
