[Electrochemical study on oxidation of pyrite in bio-leaching system of Acidthiobacillus ferrooxidan

  The electrochemical oxidation behavior of pyrite in bio-leaching system of Acidthiobacillus ferrooxidans was investigated by cyclic voltammetry(CV), polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).The results show that in the absence of Acidthiobacillus ferrooxidans, pyrite is oxidized to S, which makes electrode passivated; in the presence of Acidthiobacillus ferrooxidans, pyrite is firstly oxidized to S starting at 0V(vs.SCE), above 0.6V(vs.SCE), S is oxidized to SO42.The polarization current density of pyrite and the corrosion rate of anode are accelerated by Acidthiobacillus ferrooxidans, and the anodic reaction mechanism of pyrite is changed.The resistance in the presence of Acidthiobacillus ferrooxidans is obviously lower than that in the absence of Acidthiobacillus ferrooxidans, it furthedy indicates that microorganism accelerates the corrosion process of pyrite.
