Recent computations of the thermal and electrical conductivities of liquid iron mixtures atthe Earths core conditions severely restricts the convection power available for sustaining the geodynamo,reminding us of the importance of the lunar-solar precession as an alternative cause for generating and maintaining the geomagnetic field.
