  The engineering properties of deep water sediments is very different from those of shallow water sediments,and the engineering properties of deep water sediments worldwide possess a certain regional characteristics.The previous researches on the engineering properties of deep water sediments in the northern South China Sea continental slope were limited to 6m depth below seafloor.However the engineering properties of deep water sediments buried more than 6m deep below seabed,which are key data for typical deep water foundation design and installation,are lack of research.The engineering properties of deep water sediments in the of the northern South China Sea continental slope are studied through four deep water drilling boreholes,one deep water seabed Cone Penetration Test(CPT)and one shallow water drilling borehole,meanwhile the regional characteristics of the northern South China Sea continental slope are compared with deep water sediments in other deep area in the word,the reasons led to the differences are deduced.Results of this study provide the reference for the future design and construction as well as the evaluation of geo-hazards in the region deep water development project.
