The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens, is the most devastating rice pest in many areas throughout Asia.In the present study, we have cloned apterousA (apA) gene in N.lugens.The full-length cDNA of NlapA is 3004 bp and has an open reading frame of 1269 bp, encoding a protein of 422 amino acids.Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) analysis revealed that NlapA mRNA was mainly expressed in the wing bud, and its expression level is continuously higher in the nymphs than that in adults.
