For water reuse, membrane technologies are more and more widely applied all over the world. There has been a rapid increase of market share for tertiary filtration using membranes and membrane bioreactors (MBRs), especially in China where annual increase of new wastewater treatment plants with water reclamation systems is remarkable. In order to obtain high quality reclaimed water as the sole source for replenishing urban lakes/streams, UF/MF–RO systems are installed in many water deficient cities, while for water reuse in smaller scales, MBR becomes a favorable option.
