We present an observational analysis of cooling/heating rates of electrons in the expanding solar wind plasma. Our study is based on HELIOS spacecraft dataset ranging from 0.3 to 1 AU in the ecliptic plane.

In situ measurements have shown that the less-abundant alpha particles are characterized by temperature anisotropy which could drive the anisotropy-driven kinetic instabilities in the solar wind.
