  Glial cells in the central nervous system received lots of attention for their possible roles in the creation and maintenance of chronic pain.Satellite cells,one of the major types of glial cells in the peripheral nervous system,undergo lots of changes after axotomy and spinal nerve injury,including increased glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)expression and proliferation in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG).However,little is known about their changes and their potential role during the course of chronic neuropathic pain.Object:In our present study,the activation of satellite cells in the dorsal root ganglia after Lumber 5 spinal nerve ligation (SNL) was investigated elaborately and systematically.Their role in the maintenance of chronic pain was evaluated by the application of fluorocitrate,a glial inhibitor.
