Chain mobility of the surface layers of polymer films or particles were enhanced under geometric confinements.Polymer particles with nano-diameters and freeze-dried polymer can be easily compressed into transparent pellet at temperatures much lower than the glass transition.Shear induced chain flow was understood to be the major driving force for the cold deformation.This is in good agreement with the process of unjamming transitions of particles.
