  In-situ collection of structural response information is one of the essential tasks for bridge management and maintenance,which could be facilitated by novel sensing technologies.This paper introduces two of those novel sensing technologies,the wireless sensor network and the laser Doppler vibrometry.The wireless sensors,compared to cabled sensors,can potentially reduce implementation time and costs,thus facilitating deployment of a dense network of sensors for structural health monitoring (Rice and Spencer,2009).The laser Doppler vibrometer,which does not rely on physical contact with a subject,has evolved to complement traditional contact sensing methods (Dai et al.,2013).This study conducted three case studies of bridge field testing by using these two technologies.
