THE EXPERIENCE OF IABP IN 540 PATIENTS

  Objective:We are reporting the clinical use of intra aortic balloon pump (IABP) in 540 patients who suffered severe cardiac disease.The procedure and experience in application of IABP will be discussed.Methods:Out of 540 patients who underwent IABP between Jan.2002 and June 2007,393 (72.8%) patients were male.Their mean age was 61.5 ± 10.5 years.The percentage of NYHA III and IV of cardiac function was 81.5% (440 patients).The surgical procedure included coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in 384 patients (71.1%),CABG combining valve replacement in 43 patients and CABG combining ventricular aneurysm resection in 24 patients,besides valve replacement surgery in 35 patients and other cardiac surgery in 13 patients.Only 41 patients did not undergo cardiac surgery.
