One of the difficulties with pharmacologic studies of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is that it is often difficult if not impossible to identify a single bioactive compound from a complex mixture of compounds making up TCM.Even when a single bioactive can be identified from a TCM drug there is still often the difficulty in matching up the bioactive with a specific target gene product or target pathway.
