Mixing gasoline with bioethanol has been widely practiced and accepted worldwide especially in Brazil, USA and Europe;increasing the world ethanol demand. The percentage of bioethanol mixed in gasoline varies from country to country depending on cost and policy.Benefits of bioethanol-mixed gasoline include reduction of CO2 emission, sustainability and economic. The use of food based materials such as corn, cassava, sugar cane molasses, potatoes etc.for bioethanol has been criticized as unethical as it competes with global food supply.New options include production of bioethanol using raw materials from biomass and organic wastes from agriculture, domestics and industrial wastes. However waste-based bioethanol production project is usually less attractive with long payback period and very low return. This is because of low energy content of waste, high processing cost and high technology investment. The viability of bioethanol production are dependent on important input parameters namely CV (calorific value) of the raw materials, and its availability;technology, business model, and policy.Mixing different types of wastes as raw materials is expected to increase CV and reducing the risk of its supply. It ensures the availability of the raw materials in the long run thereby reducing the project risk.Hidro-Syn (HSTM) Model is an integrated business model that has been developed to predict the ROI, payback period and the internal rate of return (IRR) of a bioethanol project from mixed wastes.HSTM model integrates the input parameters under different CV values to calculate its economic viability.Out put of HSTM model demonstrates that bioethanol production using mixed wastes is very viable and sustainable compared to single waste option. It eliminates totally the competition for food production. It could provide stable energy supply and reducing cost, conserving fossil fuels and improving global energy security. It also gives added environmental benefits such as reducing global warming, improving air and water quality and enhancing public health.
