Mass Media Interest on Man-made Disasters in China: A Case Study of the People's Daily

This paper analyzes the determinants of the decision of the Peoples Daily to cover a disaster based on 142 man-made disasters in China.The estimate results of binary logistic regression show that the probability of traffic disasters covered by the Peoples Daily is less than other types of disasters.The media interests on the disasters happened in eastern and middle China.The more people killed in a disaster,the higher likelihood to be covered by the Peoples Daily.
