Sustainable building materials should be energy effective, environmental friendly, more durable, functional, renewable and/or can make living/ working environment more comfortable.In this talk, cement-based sustainable building materials developed at HKUST will be introduced.They include new cement-based noise shielding materials, phase-change thermal insulation wall panel and cement-based piezoelectric materials.For the renewable materials, bamboo cement thin plate composite and natural polymer based admixture will be introduced.The presentation will also introduce the energy effective binders such as MgO-based cement as rapid-hardening material for repair, and innovative and effective thermal insulating coating materials.
