Utilizing synergetic effects of different fillers is an important strategy to develop high-performance polymer nanocomposites.[1,2] In this work,two-dimensional(2D)graphene oxide(GO)and lignin nanoparticles were assembled to form a nanocomposites via being sonicated in water.TEM and SEM indicated that the lignin nanoparticles were all attached on the graphene sheets homogeneously and tightly,indicating a strong interface interaction between GO and lignin.The obtained GO-lignin nanocomposites were then employed to enhance a water-soluble polymer poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA).Dynamic Mechanical Analysis(DMA)results showed that,compared with adding GO or lignin only,more improvements of storage modulus of PVA was achieved by incorporating with GO-lignin nanocomposites.Tensile tests were further confirmed the better enhancements of PVA/GO-lignin composites.Furthermore,the thermal stability of PVA was found to be increased with the addition of GO-lignin.By attaching on GO nanosheets,lignin got a much improved dispersion in the PVA,which greatly increased the interface interaction between fillers and the polymer matrix.Meanwhile,GO was anchored more tightly on PVA matrix with the help of the attached lignin nanoparticles.This word demonstrated a fairly promising route to prepare polymer nanocomposite with outstanding performances.This work demonstrated a good example for promoting homogeneously dispersion of nanoparticles in the polymers and achieving a synergetic improved performance with the aid GO nanosheets.
