The coupling approach of the boundary element method(BEM)and the material point method(MPM)is proposed to study high speed metal cutting.For problems with severe distortions,the MPM can be more accurate,efficient and robust since the mesh distortion caused by extreme deformation can be avoided.However,the MPM requires morecomputational storage and cost because both background grid and particle data need to be saved.
