为促进受教育者的全面发展而实施的德育、智育、体育、美育和劳动技术教育是构成我国社会主义学校教育的重要组成部分,美育是其中的一个重要因素。苏联美学家奥夫杨尼科在《美学》一书中说:“教师不但应该熟悉了解所教的课程及其教学方法,而且应该熟悉掌握了解包括行为美在内的审美文化领域的丰富知识、素养和能力,并且善于把这些学识修养传授给自己的学生们”。因此在各门学科中都必须贯穿美育的内容,各门课的教师应当自觉地、有意识地挖掘各科教学中所包含的美育因素,从各方面对学生进行审美教育。中学历史教师也就必然要承担起美育的职责。
